Conducted at our office, the training provided participants with a thorough understanding of UAV-based GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) operations and mission planning using UgCS software. The university, based in Lithuania, brought their own equipment, which included a DJI Matrice 350 drone integrated with a RadSys Zond Aero 500GPR sensor.
The training was structured into modules, covering both basic concepts and advanced operations.
UgCS Basics: Introduced key features and functions of UgCS, ensuring participants could plan and execute missions effectively.
UgCS AreaScan & True Terrain Following: Covered the creation of AreaScan missions and the use of True Terrain Following for GPR surveys, ensuring accuracy and safety in complex environments.
GPR Basics (GPR-2): Explained Ground Penetrating Radar principles, UAV integration, and applications in environmental research and forestry.
GPR Advanced (GPR-3): Focused on data acquisition, processing, and troubleshooting for the RadSys Zond Aero 500 sensor.
Hands-On Experience
A major highlight of the training was the hands-on practical experience. Participants performed UAV-GPR flights with their DJI M350 drone and RadSys Zond Aero 500 sensor, allowing them to translate classroom knowledge into practice. These exercises enabled them to apply the theoretical knowledge gained during the training and build confidence in operating the equipment in real-world scenarios.
Advancing Expertise in UAV-GPR Operations
The training aimed to empower Kaunas Forestry and Environmental Engineering University of Applied Sciences with the skills and knowledge necessary for leveraging UAV-GPR technology in forestry and environmental research. The focus on both software and hardware ensured a holistic learning experience, enabling the team to confidently use their UAV-GPR system for diverse applications.
