DroneGIS: How to share point cloud in the browser

DroneGIS - is a convenient online point cloud viewer, supporting different point cloud file formats, such as LAS and LAZ. It can visualize data in various colorization modes: RGB, intensity, by class. Also point clouds support distance, angle and area measurements.

Below, we explain how to show point clouds in the browser in 5 simple steps.

Step 1

Create or open a survey and then go to the “Point clouds” section in the left bar.

Then press the “Upload point cloud” button and select LAS or LAZ files in the appearing dialog.

Press “Upload”.

Step 2

Software uploads files to a cloud storage and tries to extract projection. If automatic projection detection fails, the user may see it as “Unrecognized”.

In this case open the context menu of a file (right most part) and set SRS manually.

If software applies SRS correctly, then the “Coordinate reference system” column will display the selected SRS.

Step 3

Finally when all data is prepared correctly, point clouds can be added to the map. To do that click “Add to map” in the context menu of the file.

As a result a new layer with a point cloud will appear in the 3D view of the map.

Step 4

To adjust point size, open the “Point cloud” section context menu and use the slider.

Colorization mode, opacity, and visible classes can be configured for each point cloud layer individually.

To adjust the colorization mode open the context menu and select the desired rendering option.

The same context menu has the opacity and class adjustment menu.

Software does not make a point cloud classification. So, the class selection is available if point cloud already has class attributes.

Step 5

Point cloud supports the following measurement tools: leaner, angle, area.

Measurements appear on the map and in the layers bar.
